Hope Solo, former United States guard, sentenced to two years in prison suspended

Goalkeeper with 202 selections with the United States, Hope Solo (40) received a two-year suspended prison sentence for driving while intoxicated. The facts date back to March. The short-lived OL player (7 games in 2005) pleaded guilty after being found passed out at the wheel of her car while the engine was running and her 2-year-old twins were in the back seat.

Misdemeanor charges of child abuse and resisting a public officer were dropped, according to the Winston Salem Journal. She was still fined $2,500 plus $600 in lab fees.

Hope Solo, who retired in 2016, reacted to the condemnation on Twitter: “I am proud of motherhood and what my husband and I have done day in and day out for over two years, throughout the pandemic, with our twins. Although I’m proud of us, it was incredibly difficult and I made a huge mistake. Easily the worst of my life. I underestimated how destructive part of my life alcohol had become. The advantage of making such a big mistake is that you learn from it quickly. It was difficult and sometimes very painful. »
