But who wants the skin of the Saint-Nazaire cats? The heart of this city, located on the northern bank of the Loire estuary, hides a sordid history of poisonings and attacks. However, the target of this local Jack the Ripper would not be the bad women of the harbor slums, but another population in the gutter. Cats. In recent months, several felines in the city center have been found abused, attacked or even drunk. Some survive, others die. The mystery remains.
“A garbage bag, a shovel and it clears”
As reported by our colleagues from France Bleu, the majority of these incidents seem to revolve around the rue du Commandant Gustave Gâté, which crosses part of the center of Nazaire. At the beginning of August, two victims arrived directly from this axis at the veterinary clinic in Les Halles, poisoned with mouse poison or other products of the same type, such as corbicide or taupicide. Acid attacks were also recorded. For Smarties, the cat of a resident of rue du Commandant Gustave Gâté, the ordeal lasted two days. And when death is not proven, the cats disappear into the wild. “My daughter’s cat suddenly disappeared a few weeks ago. We never found him.” this father testified on CNews.
Another resident found one of his cats “massacre” and thrown in a garbage bag. “Neighbors told me they had already heard someone say ‘a garbage bag, a shovel and it clears'”he told the local press, claiming to have received a threatening letter. And to add having entrusted his other cat to his relatives to keep him away from the mysterious cat killer. According to veterinarians in the city centre, up to four cases of poisoning could be registered on the same day. Dozens of felines were reportedly victims of this violence. The residents of the neighborhood will also have their own idea about the identity of the perpetrator, but prefer to leave it to the courts. Several complaints were reportedly lodged at the Saint-Nazaire police station. When asked, the National Police did not wish to comment.
