For seven years and the appearance of the first legaltech, the law market is going through changes that have sometimes caused extreme situations. However, the need for justice, such as legislative and regulatory inflation or the complex development of companies, leads to a sustained growth in needs on a market estimated in France at 40 billion euros in 2020. This dynamic has also allowed the multiplication of the number of lawyers over the last twenty years. But this growth, contrary to many economic sectors, had only marginally allowed reflection on moving from craftsmanship to a legal industry that could offer more services, for a more affordable price, by working its costs and its value contributions. The classic economic laws of a mature market have thus caught up with lawyers who must innovate and invest in order not to be out of the market, without having been prepared, by their studies and their organization, for this change which goes beyond the impact of the use widespread digital. How to make up for lost time to innovate at 360 degrees?
First of a long series to come, the white paper “Innovations and lawyers: time to do”, under the direction of Stéphane Baller, Lawyer of Counsel De Gaulle Fleurance & Associés and co-director of DU T2DL Digital Transformation of Law & Legaltech at Paris 2, opportunely intends to take an interest in understanding the initiatives that could enable the legal profession to adapt to the profound changes that are going through it, namely its ability to innovate, through articles of reflection on the legal market in general and the legal profession in particular, and podcasts of interviews and testimonials from those who experience innovation on a daily basis.
Innovation, far from being only digital, would thus be above all managerial and strategic. And this innovation, which can be learned and experienced, but presupposes a vision, is no longer waiting!
The White Paper “Innovation and lawyers: time to do it!” is part of the work of the Avocats Lefebvre Dalloz Strategic Committee. The purpose of this committee is to contribute to reflection on the profession of lawyer, in its aspects both of professional practice and of management or development strategy for law firms or companies. It thus intends to promote the expression and dissemination of good practices, experiences, or visions of the profession or law, around writings, podcasts, videos or events, in order to support the understanding of changes in the profession. and to animate the debate within the community of lawyers, their clients, their authorities… their ecosystem.
