You now know that the green insurance card, which was mandatory since 1986, no longer exists! Finally, if your contract is valid until a date after April 1st, you still have it and the mechanics ask you to keep it! Of course, insuring a motor vehicle is still mandatory in France, and thankfully, the green card is no longer. The mechanics are not really happy of this new measure when carrying out repairs for their customers. According to them, The Insured Vehicle File (FVA) is not accurate enough regarding vehicle warranties. I will immediately explain to you why the disappearance of the green card is far from satisfying repairmen. Let’s go.
The green card replaced by the FVA or Insured Vehicle File
The famous green butterfly is therefore replaced by a computerized system called Insured Vehicle Files (FVA). Before April 1, 2024, when you were stopped by the police, you had to have your sticker, updated, on your windshield. However, you also had to present the green card, which contained your information, the details of your vehicle and your guarantees. The same situation occurs when you take your vehicle in for repairs after an accident or a broken window, for example. Today, since you no longer have these two documents, the police, like mechanics, consult the FVA, but it does not suit them!
Because FVA is not suitable for mechanics?
This dematerialized file ” does not contain enough information to enable us to do our job well.” plague Jean-Marc Donatien, chairman of Mobilian’s bodywork business, in an interview with tribune-assurance.optionfinance.fr. He explains that FVA only tells him the essential elements: insurance company, contract end date and civil liability insurance. This is the bare minimum for car insurance. On the other hand, no more information about the all-risk guarantee or broken glass, E.g. These elements are essential for the mechanic and without them it is impossible for him to know the guarantees. Finally, there’s a way that stays on paper: the Insured Vehicle Memo! The problem? All policyholders who no longer have a green card have not yet received this Insured Vehicle Note and therefore cannot present it. Some received it but didn’t know it had to be stored in the car! ” Users don’t know they can present it. There is an educational effort to be made on the part of the insurance companies”adds the chairman.
But what do we do, motorists?
For example, if your contract runs until 31 December 2024, we advise you to keep your green card. For the windshield sticker, you can remove it after making sure to check that it was registered in the insured vehicle record. At the very least, if necessary, you will be able to present the green card to your mechanic. If your contract was renewed on 1 April 2024 or a later date, you should “normally” have received your insured vehicle note. If this is not the case, check your insurance company’s customer area. For example, I am insured with Pro BTP and I can print my Insured Vehicle Memo, which I find by clicking on “view my contract”. Otherwise you will need to contact your insurance company to get your insured vehicle note, this will be of great help to your mechanic while you wait for the FVA to improve.
