Amber Heard’s lawyers asked last Friday for the reversal of the verdict of her trial against Johnny Depp, reports the British daily The Guardian. According to them, the conclusions of the judges are not sufficiently substantiated.
In a 43-page document, the advice of the actress also demands the cancellation of the 10 million dollars in damages that she must pay to her ex-husband.
At the end of six weeks of debates, the seven jurors of the court of Fairfax, in the United States, had concluded on June 1 that the ex-spouses had defamed each other through the press. But they granted more than 10 million dollars to the star of “Pirates of the Caribbean”, against only 2 million for that of “Aquaman”.
The highly publicized trial, broadcast live on television, exposed the lackluster private lives of the two Hollywood celebrities, sparking a rash of insulting messages towards the 36-year-old actress on social media.
An illegally selected judge
But according to Amber Heard’s defense, juror number 15 in the trial was potentially illegally selected because he allegedly lied about his date of birth (1945 instead of 1970). “This discrepancy raises the question of whether Juror 15 actually received a subpoena and was duly approved by the court to serve on the jury,” the attorneys argue in the document.
The actress reaffirms that Johnny Depp did not lose his place in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise because of his accusations of domestic violence.
Informed of this appeal, Ben Chew, Johnny Depp’s lawyer, rejected this document, stating that “it is exactly what we expected”. “It’s just longer than expected and it does not bring much,” he notes.
