One of the jurors in the case between Johnny Depp and his former girlfriend Amber Heard would never have been summoned, argue the actress’s lawyers, who reiterated their request for a mistrial on Friday.
Would a juror have hidden another? This is what the lawyers of Amber Heard argue, who have once again requested the cancellation of the trial between the actress and her ex-husband Johnny Depp.
“Juror No. 15 was not the person summoned on April 11, 2022, and therefore was not part of the jury and could not have sat on the jury during this trial”, Heard’s lawyer said on Friday. , Elaine Bredehoft. “Therefore, a mistrial must be declared and a new trial ordered.”
“The person called to be part of the jury was born in 1945 and would have been 77 years old at the time of the trial”, detailed the lawyer in her request for cancellation. “But the person who was selected for the jury and who sat there was 52 years old,” she said.
One more cancellation request
These two individuals have the same last name and appear to live at the same address in Fairfax County, Va., where the trial took place, according to the filing. But, wrote Elaine Bredehoft, the wrong one showed up for juror.
“As the Court no doubt agrees, it is deeply disturbing that a person who is not summoned as a juror should nevertheless appear there as a juror and serve on a jury, particularly in a case such as this. -this (…). This was a high profile case, where the fact and date of the jury trial was highly publicized before and after the subpoenas were issued,” the lawyer added.
This new request for cancellation is in addition to the request of the teams of Amber Heard to cancel the verdict filed on July 1, arguing in particular that the conclusions of the jurors had not been sufficiently substantiated.
