At the beginning of August, a cat was attacked by a dog in the rue du Général-Leclerc. Rescued at the last minute from the animal’s fangs, he was returned to his owners before being taken to a vet by the La Halte des chats association.
As a reminder, La Halte des chats has been managing the population of stray cats in Froncles/Buxières for more than three years by sterilizing them and identifying them with an electronic chip and then releasing them where they live. Its volunteers alerted the municipality and the police to the presence of a dog that “wandered” in the city and attacked cats. Attacks have been fatal.
The cat that was attacked this first Sunday in August was luckier than its peers as it escaped the attack with minor injuries. However, it is difficult not to fear a new attack. This Sunday, August 4, it was anger that dominated among those responsible for the association. The situation made them despair.
Lawsuits are underway, the mayor says, adding that the municipality is taking action.
Within the municipality, the topic seems to be divided: we clash verbally, we argue on social networks about the association’s actions. The recent attacks of this dog seemed to add fuel to the fire of latent quarrels.

A petition that says a lot
A petition was put online by the association to warn the public authorities about the potential dangers associated with the dog’s wanderings. A few lines emphasize the helplessness of the volunteers and the urgency of the situation before inviting ) to sign.
“SOS!” Support us in our fight for the well-being and freedom of Froncles’ cats. Irresponsible owners let their dogs wander, dangerous for the cats in our village.
Two weeks ago, a disabled kitten was attacked in front of her mistress’s house in Buxieres and the dog carried her away in its mouth. Yesterday, another tragedy with a dog that massacred two cats, Bel-Air district.
The dog has been attacking for several years, she breaks into people’s homes to kill their cats, and she killed a free cat, rue du Chemin-de-Fer, in November 2023.
These tragedies cannot continue any longer. We must act quickly. »
