The Biden administration on Monday reached an $11 million deal to fund the production of Jynneos monkeypox vaccines.
This agreement is, it is said, part of the efforts made by the American administration to strengthen the supply of vaccines in a context of limited availability.
The Jynneos vaccine is produced by Danish company Bavarian Nordic, which signed an agreement earlier this month with Michigan-based Grand River Aseptic Manufacturing (GRAM) “to establish the first fill and finish line” of vials. vaccine in the United States.
The Department of Biomedical Research and Development (HHS) under the Department of Health and Human Services will provide $11 million to help GRAM purchase additional equipment, as well as recruit and train new staff, to help expedite packaging of vaccine vials, according to an HHS statement.
“We continue to strengthen our efforts to secure and make available safe and effective vaccines,” said Health Secretary Xavier Becerra.
He added that “this new agreement strengthens the domestic manufacturing capacity that will bring us more vaccines sooner to end this epidemic”.
The United States recently declared the monkeypox outbreak a “public health emergency,” helping to free up funds, facilitate data collection, and mobilize more manpower to fight the virus.
