A kind person went to find a stray kitten, but saw many more cats that needed her help.

When Louise saw a post about a stray kitten that had walked onto someone’s porch, she immediately offered to help.

As the temperatures continued to drop, the hungry kitten was likely drawn to the front porch in search of food and warmth. When Louise arrived, she saw the little calico from the post, but was surprised to find several others with her.

“Their rescuer tried to catch them all, but it turned out to be quite challenging,” said Celine of Chatons Orphelins Montreal.

Louise set up a humane trap in the area and waited patiently until she secured four of the kittens, one by one. The fearful and confused kittens huddled on the back of the carrier and sought comfort from each other.

While the rest of the kittens remained hidden, she transported the four to Chatons Orphelins Montreal, where they could receive immediate care.

Determined to get them all to safety, she returned to find the remaining kittens. After some time, three little ones slowly emerged from hiding.

“She saw two long-haired kittens and managed to catch them, and then she found a calico tabby and scooped her up as well. These three are the same age as the other four, probably from the same litter.”

After being treated for stomach ailments, the kittens were taken into care, where they were given plenty of food and comfort. “Their foster family weighed them daily to ensure they were making steady gains.”

Their foster mother began socializing them by wrapping them in a blanket like a “burrito.” Gradually they warmed to touch and discovered their spinning motors.

After a few days, the four kittens, Chai, Shakie, Hoji and Kayu, became more confident, especially when they realized that their humans always brought food.

“Although they are a bit shy around people, they love to have fun and never miss a chance for group play. They are all close, especially Chai and Kayu, who are a dynamic duo.”

When the seven kittens were reunited, they immediately hit it off, zooming around the room like little whirlwinds, as if they had never been apart.

“Their reunion felt like a little party. They recognized each other immediately.”

“Shakie the calico is a real spinning machine. Kayu has been the boldest from the start. If he trusts you, he’ll start spinning the moment you look at him. He’s very close to Chai, who is the shyest of them all . “

Chai is making progress every day and is slowly learning to trust. She is motivated by food and curious about what Kayu is doing. Hoji is a little rascal, full of energy and always ready to play with the others.

The three other kittens, Fog, Latte and Lava, are also thriving. “Mist and Latte are inseparable. If you look for one, you will always find the other. They sleep together, groom each other and eat at the same time.”

“Latte feels reassured when she is with her brother. She often imitates what he does and he seeks her out when she is not around.”

Lava, the curious calico tabby, is more independent. She stays near her siblings while doing her own thing, like inspecting the cubbyhole at the base of the cat tree.

Now that they are indoors, they run the house like they own it and live each day to the fullest. “They are the lucky ones who were saved just in time, just before the first snowfall.”

Thanks to the compassionate rescuer and volunteers, they spend their first New Year warm and safe, sheltered from the cold of winter.
