A piglet and a physically challenged puppy living in a shelter turned out to be best friends. Like the story of the pregnant stray cat who stays in a police station with her kittens and is given a job.
Winston is an adorable little special needs dog who arrived at the shelter Charlotte’s Freedom Farm when he was only a month and a half old. Unfortunately, the family caring for him was not able to give him the care he needed.
When rescuers first picked him up, they thought only his front legs were malformed.
They suddenly realized his sternum hadn’t fully developed either, which meant his lungs and heart weren’t properly protected and the little dog would need multiple surgeries to rebuild his rib cage.
Shelter manager Lauren Edwardstold The Dodo:
“The main problem right now is that I have to limit what he’s doing because he’s at a high risk of something happening. »
A piglet and a puppy are best friends
The pup wanted to play with the other animals in the pen, but they were too rough and it was too risky for Winnie at the time.
The shelter employees were sad for the puppy, because there was no one to play with him, until the arrival of Wilma, a little pig that would change everything.
The piglet was rescued by Freedom Farm in Charlotte after being found wandering the streets. Rescuers assume he managed to jump out of a truck, which matches his mischievous and boisterous personality.
As soon as he arrived, the piglet showed his big personality and made it clear from the start that he had chosen Winston as his best friend.
“He’s sweet, but, oh how, he’s cheeky. If you pick him up he screams so loud I’m sure they can hear him across the street. He figured out how to jump on the couch and he loves doing it,” Lauren points out.
The playing time between the two is a little quieter, which is good for Winston. However, Lauren often keeps tabs on the duo in case anything goes wrong.
“They also stay together outside, but he is very focused on finding insects. He just sits and watches him when they’re out”, Lauren said.
In the pen, all the staff agree that the piglet is the perfect companion for Winston and that he was all he needed to be happy.
Finally, Lauren remarked:
“People love seeing them together, and he will weigh over 800 pounds, so watching them grow will be fun too. »
