The toll is very heavy for the owner, very affected by the loss of these animals, which were ready to give birth: seven ewes were killed, another is wounded in the throat and the others, very scared, are at risk of aborting in the next days.
It was about 4:45 p.m., Friday, January 13; when a resident of Cervenon, owner of a horse, and who was going to see him, in a nearby meadow sees two dead sheep and another wounded, dying. Not knowing the owner, she contacted the mayor, Agnès Devoucoux, who informed the latter.
It is a real scene of horror, as we then discover: the sheep are slaughtered, removed, torn and devoured.
The dogs found in the meadow
Was it an attack by a lone wolf or by stray dogs?
The answer will be known very quickly since that evening, shortly after 10 p.m., two dogs; a black labrador and a black and white border collie are found inside the meadow, lying near the body of one of the sheep.
The owner of the herd, warned by a young couple from Cervenon, goes to the place and informs the mayor.
“It was urgent to protect the rest of the pack, and there was no question of going into the meadow, with the risk of being attacked. We therefore had to find the owner of the dogs as soon as possible, otherwise we would have had to make an arrest for serious and imminent danger and to kill these two canines”, explains the elected. The gendarmerie, the lieutenant of the louveterie, the president of the hunting company Saint-Germain-des-Bois and the DDT are alerted.
The dogs were saved
A young woman explains to the police that she saw a message on Facebook from another resident who allegedly lost two dogs in the town of Amazy a few kilometers away. The posted image would correspond well to the dogs.
The gendarmes present consult the message, identify this woman and warn her. It was actually the owner who came to pick up her dogs that had been missing for two days.
