This dog loves his food bowl: Oliver was a stray pup who arrived in a family’s yard in Memphis, Tennessee (USA). Animal control services went looking for him, but every time one of them approached the dog, it jumped over the fence and ran out of the yard, as if it were of a game.
Until the officers set a humane trap to catch him and eventually take him to the service of the Memphis animals.
Shelter staff believe Oliver may have had a home at one time, as he is a very intelligent dog who loved food and treats, and knew that if he listened and behaved well, he would. would get a lot.
Shelter dog refuses to be adopted without food bowl
Katie Pemberton, community engagement specialist at Memphis Animal Services, told The Dodo:
“I met him the first day he arrived, and he sat down with me immediately before I showed him I had treats. Then, of course, as soon as he saw the treats, he got even more eager to sit down. The more he got to know me, the more he pressed himself against the bars of his kennel to let me pet him. »
Oliver liked so much food that it went quickly attached to his food bowl, and began taking it with him wherever he went.
The first night he arrived at the shelter, Katie, the owner of the premises, stopped outside his kennel in the animal control reception room and noticed him with his bowl in his mouth.
Katie explains as follows:
“His cute trick was very effective, because he gets more food! Then, when he moved into his permanent kennel, he continued to do so. He had his bowl in his mouth most of the time. »
Someone from Oliver’s past probably taught him how to hold his food bowl. It is also possible that he was deprived of food at some point and was afraid that he would lose sight of his bowl and not be fed again.
While living at the shelter, Oliver continued to carry his food bowl from one end to the other, and the shelter staff found it incredibly endearing. But, if Oliver didn’t find a rescue group or a home, he would soon be euthanized.
Shelter volunteers started taking photos and sharing them on social media, and it didn’t take long so that the rest of the world also falls in love with Oliver.
The shelter received an unusual number of inquiries about Oliver after his photos went viral.
Katie explains as follows:
“I wish all dogs had so many people interested in adopting them. »
Oliver’s love for his bowl got him noticed, and ultimately led his forever family to choose him. Oliver was adopted and is now at home with his new family. Of course, he was overjoyed when he learned that his bowl of food would accompany him.
This dog now has the best home an animal could wish for, where he never has to worry about going hungry again.
