South Korea ranks 9th in terms of trade surplus with the United States

SEOUL, Aug. 28 (Yonhap) — South Korea ranked ninth among countries with a trade surplus with the United States in the first half of this year, while Asia’s fourth-largest economy posted year-on-year strong growth in its exports to this market during the period, according to US government data released on Sunday.

According to the Commerce Department, South Korea’s trade balance with the United States for the January-June period was in surplus by $21.67 billion, a jump of 86.9% over a year. year. At the same time, South Korean exports increased by 25.9%, while imports from the United States rose by only 4.8%.

In the ranking of countries with a trade surplus with the United States, South Korea has gained five places compared to the first half of 2021. China is first, ahead of Mexico and Vietnam. Canada, Japan and Ireland come in fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively.
