Stop the health insurance scam from spreading on Snapchat!

Health insurance is experiencing an alarming increase in fraud, thanks in particular to the ease with which false documents such as payslips or work resignations can be obtained on social networks. On July 17, she sounded the alarm about these scam kits sold at low prices. How can we combat this worrying phenomenon?

Ph.D

  • Health insurance fraud is constantly on the rise.
  • Scam kits are sold on social networks, including Snapchat.
  • Oise CPAM noted a 64% increase in fraud in one year.
  • There are severe financial penalties for fraudsters.

The Escalation of Health Insurance Fraud

In these times of technological innovation, fraud takes on a new face. For several years, Sygesikring has been the target of a growing scourge: fake documents that are available with just a few clicks on social networks. L’explosion of fraud prompted a call for vigilance by the organization on July 17.

Cheat sets at your fingertips

Social networks, and in particular Snapchat, are seen as “black market” for these illegal activities. For a modest sum of ten euros, complete cheat sets are available, containing fake pay slips or fake work stoppages. Fraudsters can then send them to the primary health insurance funds (CPAM) and illegally benefit from the compensation.

A growing threat

The ease of access to these scam kits and their rapid spread on social networks worries Health Insurance. Although the amount of each set may seem insignificant, their accumulation can create a real financial hole. Alexandra Picard, head of legal and anti-fraud at CPAM de l’Oise, testifies to this concern, noting a tip in the profiles of fraudsters, who are now mainly young men between the ages of 20 and 30.

Sanctions and measures taken

Faced with this threat, health insurance does not remain passive. Identified fraudsters must repay the amounts collected, increased by 10%, and may face financial penalties of up to 300% of the fraud. Oise CPAM, which is particularly affected, has increased its staff to deal with this problem.

Editorial opinion

It is imperative to remember the importance of integrity and respect for the rules of our society. As technology makes fraud more accessible, everyone needs to be aware of the consequences and be vigilant. Let us not forget that national solidarity is the foundation of our health system.
