Early last month, a Good Samaritan found an abandoned crate outside and was amazed to discover cats and kittens inside, one of them heavily pregnant.
They rushed them to the vet before the storm hit. The pregnant cat, Tam, was kind and loving despite everything she had endured. Volunteers from Best Friends Felines took them in and promised them the chance for a better life.
Tam quickly settled in with her foster family. She stocked up on food and then snuggled up next to her humans for a nap.

She enjoyed quality food from a constantly refilled bowl, even if it meant her carer was woken by gentle paw presses at 10am. 03.00 to fill it up again.
“From one angle, she looks elegant and slim with her big, confident eyes. But let her relax and you’ll see her round baby belly — it looks like she’s hiding a basketball of kittens in there,” shared Best Friends Felines.

Tam kept her foster family in suspense about when her kittens would arrive, “munching through endless bowls and dozing off into an even rounder shape.”
A few days of nutritious food and rest had done wonders, making her fur soft and shiny.
She insisted on staying close to her caregiverBest FriendsFelines
In the early hours of a Monday morning, Tam went into labor. Despite having prepared two cozy birthing suites, she insisted on staying close to her caregiver, right on the bed.
“Time after time she returned to her caregiver and refused to give birth anywhere else.”

After hours with no progress, it became clear that Tam needed intervention when the kittens wouldn’t come out. She was rushed to the vet, where a skilled team of three vets and four vet nurses went into action.
Tam bravely underwent a caesarean section and five of her six kittens were born.

The next two days were critical for Tam and her kittens. Her foster family worked around the clock to make sure the kittens were eating well and their mother was healing properly.
“Every two hours, the tiny kittens were weighed and those that didn’t gain enough weight were given supplementary bottle feed.”

The following day, they noticed that one of the kittens, Shortbread, had a slightly unusual palate, making it difficult to eat. “His particular difference will not affect him in the future – he just has his own way of doing things.”
Tam seemed to appreciate the support of her people, lovingly caring for her little ones while embracing her role as a mother.

The kittens quickly grew back to full strength with their mother’s milk. As they reached milestones, they became more active, eagerly exploring their surroundings and climbing above their mother.
Now that Tam is healed and beautiful, her vivacious, vivacious personality shines through.

“Typically, mother cats are intensely protective and need a quiet, separate space with their babies. But not Tam. She’s a social butterfly who eagerly darts out of the kitty room to explore the rest of the house.”
“Tam’s kittens have inherited their mother’s flair for surprises.”

“In true Tam family style, they skipped the usual learning curve – from crawling to wobbly running within 24 hours, a milestone that usually takes a few weeks to reach.”
The kittens are incredibly vocal and chat with their humans when they enter the room. “And just when their caretaker thought she had seen it all, the kittens decided to skip the usual weaning steps.”

They went from breastfeeding to eating the same meals as their mother, as if they had suddenly decided to become adults overnight. “Tam and her babies are truly a family of delightful surprises.”
With the help of a kind stranger and the tireless efforts of volunteers, Tam and her kittens are thriving with a future filled with hope and happiness.
