Pusa is a small dog disabled after being abandoned. His mistress tells her story to BFM DICI.
If thousands of dogs are abandoned every year, other owners would do anything for their animals. This is especially the case for Charlène, a Dinoise who takes care of Pusa, a small dog of about 7 years.
The latter is a good proof of resilience. Disabled, the dog must now walk with assistance from a cart. But her mistress did not give up on giving her the life she deserves.
Thrown out of a car window
Pusa is a small dog full of courage who overcame obstacles with panache. Although the little Romanian dog holds up today, her start in life was not easy. “She is a dog that comes from Romania, the person who picked her up saw her thrown out of a car window,” explains Charlène, who adopted her just over 3 years ago.
Like the Pusa, many dogs from eastern countries arrive under unusual conditions. The Association of Romania’s Forgotten helps them find a new home.
Unfortunately for Pusa, her journey through Europe was not her last challenge. In October 2022, Charlène learned that her dog had a stage 5 herniated disc and that there was no other choice but to operate.
“A few days before the operation I was in despair, I wondered if we should stop everything because she was in a lot of pain,” explains Charlène.
“She is a dog that has never bitten, but there with the pain she was looking for something to hold between her teeth. Just like us when we suffer and we look for something to ease the pain. But she was too much of a fighter, I had to find a solution.”
An operation to save her
And Charlène therefore made the decision to have the operation: “There was a 10% chance that she would walk again, but the operation saved her life because her hernia was progressive and if she hadn’t had the operation, she could have died.”
Two months after the operation, Pusa is equipped with this small cart to help her and give her an almost normal dog life.
“The surgery and the cart are expensive, but she really wanted to live, so I had to find a solution.”
With the help of the association Les Forgotten de Romania, Charlène was able to equip her dog and teach her to use this equipment on a daily basis. “She has an impressive ability to adapt!”, she emphasizes.
Today, thanks to Charlène, Pusa, assisted by Nono, her guardian angel, also repatriated from Romania, enjoys life on all fours or while rolling.
