The United States is reporting nearly 100 pediatric flu deaths this season

The United States has reported a total of 91 pediatric flu deaths since the start of the season, according to the latest data released Friday, January 27, by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

According to CDC estimates, there have been at least 25 million illnesses, 280,000 hospitalizations, and 17,000 deaths from the flu this season in the United States.

About 4,000 people were hospitalized with the flu in the past week ending Jan. 21, the data showed. Six flu-associated pediatric deaths have been reported this week.

The CDC recommends that everyone over 6 months of age get an annual flu shot as long as flu activity continues.
