“There is real justice”: thanks to X, a student collects more than 3,000 euros to treat an injured cat

In a few hours and a few tweets, Miel’s story touched thousands of people. And even convinced some to put their hands in the wallet. After Janna, a 19-year-old law student, on Thursday launched a call for help for “her” cat, Miel, rescued after a traffic accident a month ago, hundreds of netizens joined a communal pot to help cover his tongue hospitalization costs amounting to more than 2,000 euros.

At first, Janna had not thought of making a kitten for little Miel, she tells Le Parisien. It all started this Thursday afternoon with a thread – a series of tweets published on -Roses, between Val-de-Marne and Seine-et-Marne. “I was driving with my sisters and while I was driving I saw a cat lying on the road. I stopped to see how he was and I found him in very bad shape,” the young woman recalls. “He was bloody, urinating and spitting up blood. I thought he was dying. »

While she examines the condition of the cat on the road, a car pulls up. “A lady got out of the car and introduced herself as the one who ran over the little cat,” Janna recalls. Given the animal’s serious condition, Janna, her sisters and the driver agreed to take it to a vet immediately. “The lady said she would agree to pay the costs,” Janna recalls.

Hundreds of euros in fees

When you arrive at the vet, it’s a cold shower: the injured cat “has a broken jaw and internal bruises. He has several emergency operations to do,” says Janna. Emergency first aid costs 900 euros, but is generously discounted by the vet for 300 euros. The estimate for future care amounts to 2,000 euros. Janna and her sisters, Aurane and Yliana, thought they were counting on the promise of the driver who had hit the little cat and who had given her information to the vet at the same time. .Problem: these coordinates have mysteriously become impossible to find, and the driver has not provided anything new since.

Given the urgency of the situation, Janna decides to take care of the little animal’s first aid and therefore postpone the costs. “I told myself it wasn’t serious, it was payments in several installments that would be taken out of my salary for a few months,” says the woman, who works in the summer as a cashier in a restaurant in Brie-Comte -Robert (Seine-et-Marne), next to his studies.

But a coincidence occurs: a few days later, after putting down the railings at the gendarmerie, Janna, who was working at the checkout at the time, comes face to face with the driver who had disappeared. “She didn’t say anything, but her husband gave me his details to sign up for a loyalty program. I didn’t remember his number, but I remember his name. It’s etched in my mind,” assures Janna.

A prize pool of more than 3,000 euros

Confused, Janna therefore decided to share her dilemma this Thursday afternoon after a complaint…” Confused by the story of Janna and Miel, several netizens suggested that she start a fundraiser to share the cost of caring for the little cat. What she does: In a few hours, the thread is viewed almost 2 million times and more than 300 people participate in the fundraiser.

“It’s huge,” says Janna. “Some sent 100 euros, 200 euros. I’m super emotional. Earlier I cried in my room. I said to myself that finally there is justice, I have largely been reimbursed for the costs,” she says enthusiastically.

This Thursday evening the prize pool amounted to almost 3,500 euros. Or “much more” than the amount of care Janna mentioned. But according to her, the rest of the amount must also be used for Miel. “He still has other operations, he has a ridge on his jaw that needs to be removed, which is quite expensive,” testifies the law student. “And it’s a feral cat that wasn’t neutered. We’re going to take care of that too, and we’re going to chip him, buy him special kibble… He still needs a lot of care and the proceeds will help me to pay for a lot of things for him,” assures the young woman, who uses her sudden fame to share other funds on X at the same time to help animals in need.

Meanwhile, Miel, a little red-striped cat of only one and a half years old, is slowly regaining weight and strength and seems to be out of the woods, says Janna. “He has another operation in a month, but he is doing very, very well,” assures the young woman.

Those who had only known life outdoors will also eventually learn the life of a farm animal. Because it has been decided: Janna will adopt little Miel together with Cassis and Ney, her two other cats aged 10 and 2. “He still acts like a wild cat. When we make a sudden movement, he steps back, he moves, he is still a little scared,” says the student. “But he socializes very well, is very calm and shows no signs of aggression. “Miel therefore already seems ready for his new life.
