This weekend, the Cotentin is hosting a national Border Collie dog competition

Your four-legged friends are welcome by keeping them on a leash.

The association Cotentin Sheepdogs organize this Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 July 2022 his special annual Border Collie competition in the commune of Néhou (Manche) in the hamlet Fagnen.

This competition is reserved for Border Collies confirmed at work, very precise dogs in their actions and today still confirmed mainly according to criteria associated with herd work capacities.

Qualifier for the Coupe de France

Proposed by the Chiens de Berger du Cotentin association since 2019, this competition is part of the actions carried out by its members around its president Gérald Briard, canine educator and herd trainer, for the promotion of the work of Shepherd dogs.

This 3e edition in the eastern Cotentin qualifier for the French Cup. She gathers more than 79 dogs come from all over France to compete in the class 1, 2 and 3 events prepared for the occasion.

Some obligations

The competition is open to all drivers contributing to the Association Française du Border Collie, residing in France and owning a Border Collie identified in the Book of French Origins after a work test or confirmation of his aptitude for work (possibility also of transformation of a foreign pedigree).

Class 1 is open to dogs and handlers new to competitions. The transition to class 2, then the same for class 3 is possible after obtaining 2 times in a row a score of 75/100 in competitions. A handler who has already taken a dog in class 3 can start with another dog confirmed fit for work directly in class 2.

Herding

The class 2 and 3 events offered in Néhou are also qualifying for the Coupe de France. This year again, handlers and dogs having competed for the French Cup are expected in Néhou.

come admire for free the qualities of Border Collies at work and support their masters on the courses carried out including research, driving, separation from the herd and entry to the park. You will be able to appreciate their driving precision on flocks made up of 5 ewes. Only 5 ewes since a small herd complicates the task of the dogs and their handler, these being more mobile and reactive than within a larger herd.

On the spot, refreshment bar and meridian restaurant with grill will enhance these two days for all. Competition starts at 8:30 a.m.
