The Chinese application belonging to the ByteDance group is threatened with removal in the United States, following a request from the chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).
TikTok in turmoil
TikTok is in serious business. A survey carried out by the site BuzzFeed recently unveiled recordings of more than 80 internal meetings at TikTok. The audio contents reveal that the social network had access between September 2021 and January 2022 to US user data without their prior consent. The hostilities against TikTok are therefore restarted again. Indeed, during his mandate, Donald Trump had already accused TikTok of spying and had wanted to ban it in 2020 in the United States.
Apple and Google solicited
Now it is Brendan Carrappointed by Trump in 2018 to chair the FCC, who is indignant against the social network and request its deletion. He also sent a letter to Sundar Pichai and Tim Cook, respectively CEO of Apple and Google to demand that they remove the application available for download on iOS and Android. The two Tech giants have until July 8 to run. In case of refusal, Apple and Google will have to justify themselves before the FCC.
TikTok is not just another video app.
That’s the sheep’s clothing. It harvests swaths of sensitive data that new reports show are being accessed in Beijing.
I’ve called on @Apple & @Google to remove TikTok from their app stores for its pattern of surreptitious data practices. pic.twitter.com/Le01fBpNjn
