torrential rains carry away a five-year-old child under the eyes of his mother

It’s a story that shakes America. Five-year-old Kayl was swept away by the water in front of her mother, Lindsey, Wednesday, January 11. Both were suddenly on their way to school their SUV fell into a waterhole. Lindsey was able to get her son out of his car seat, but did not make it to safety. The current was too strong, as she explained to the American channel ABC. “Kayl said to me ‘mum, everything is going to be fine’. I tried to hold her hand, but the current pulled her away from me. He was swept away and I saw his hand come out of the water.”

The search continues, but the rescuers are ready. They say they are no longer looking for a live child, but Kayle’s bodyalthough it has been several days since the rain fell on San Diego, halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles.

Sad illustration of climate change

In addition to this dramatic history, California has become, for a few days, the symbol of climate change. In less than two weeks, four storms have hit this US state mud and landslides which swallows cars, although the rest of the year, California is in the grip of a catastrophic drought and gigantic fires.

Also, this is counterintuitive, but what’s happening now won’t solve this drought problem, because rainfall should be more regular, and then rainfall isn’t everything, it also requires cold. The snow cover of the Sierra Nevada, for example, represents a third of the water resources in California. Unfortunately, the state is in climatic extremes.
