Training Ukrainians in the anti-aircraft missile system is expected to take “several months”.
Ukrainian soldiers will begin training on the Patriot missile system in the United States next week, reports the American media CNN.
The training program will take place at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Fort Sill is one of the Army’s four basic training sites and home to the US Army Artillery School, which has been training soldiers for over a century. The site is also home to the air defense school.
Training Ukrainians on the missile system is expected to take “several months,” said Laura Cooper, deputy assistant secretary of defense for Russia, Ukraine and Eurasia.
Germany also helps
The US announced it would send the Patriot missile system – its flagship air defense device – to Ukraine in late December, when Ukrainian President Volodomyr Zelensky visited Washington and met with his US counterpart Joe Biden.
Germany, under international pressure to increase its military aid to Ukraine, has also pledged to provide a Patriot air defense battery.
