You are most likely familiar with the expression “Everything must go” which is dedicated to the sale of items from a business that is closing its doors permanently. In the same way or almost, RM Sotheby’s will put on sale in the USA, at the end of September, a Texaco service station from the 1950s and all that it contains. That’s not all because, during this auction called “Gene Ponder Collection”, some 120 cars, motorcycles, as well as hundreds of objects and parts will be offered to potential buyers.
The United States is known to be the country of excess. Here is a fantastic new example with the “Gene Ponder Collection”, named after the man who built himself a real dream garage. Among the more than 1,200 lots that should give headaches to collectors and curious people who will participate in the RM Sotheby’s auction (September 22-24), the Texaco gas station alone represents an incredible and authentic piece of automotive history knowing that it is in perfect condition.
This Texaco gas station is located in northeast Texas not far from Marshall. Nothing is missing, everything is for sale in one lot, from the pumps to the sign, passing through the period furniture and other materials such as, for example, cans of oil or a system to change the tires of a car, etc.
Inside this service station, there are also miniatures, a Coca-Cola distributor and even a mannequin wearing the Texaco period uniform. It should be noted that this Texaco gas station will be put up for sale without reserve price and no estimate was possible, which we can understand.
