USA finish 1st, Puerto Rico 3rd despite victory

The first round of qualifying for the 2023 Basketball World Cup continued tonight on the other side of the Atlantic, first with the USA team which was able to retain its position as leader of group D by winning 64 -87 against Cuba, last of the group with only 6 small points. At the same time, the other poster of the group saw Puerto Rico come to the end of Mexico at the end of extra time and after a very close match. A final 97-87 success for the Puerto Ricans, who finished 3rd in the group, one point behind Mexico and two lengths behind the American leader. In Group C, the Dominican Republic defeated the Bahamas 88-80, thus finishing 2nd in their pool behind Canada.
