(Reuters) – At least 30 people, including several children, have been killed in flooding caused by torrential rains in eastern Kentucky, the governor of the eastern state said on Monday.
This toll should increase further, added Andy Beshear during a press conference, indicating that other bodies had been found.
Officials have warned that further downpours could hamper rescue operations. According to the National Weather Service, several storms and precipitation are expected through Tuesday.
Andy Beshear explained this weekend that the authorities “would find bodies for several more weeks”, while help reaches more distant areas.
Kentucky was hit by another deadly natural disaster seven months ago last December when tornadoes killed nearly 80 people in the western part of the state.
