The 17-year-old Chinese Crested dog beat out nine other competitors last week in the decades-old annual competition. The champ was adopted last year during the coronavirus pandemic by 41-year-old Arizona musician Jeneda Benally.
“A creature that deserved to be loved”
She said that at the kennel she was told about an elderly dog with health problems. “The kennel staff tried to prepare me for what I was going to see. I saw a creature that was indeed old, needed a second chance and deserved to be loved”said the proud owner.
Vets had warned that due to health issues, the dog could only live for a few weeks. But “mom’s love, kindness and kisses helped him” to overcome these problems, added Jeneda Benally. “His hobbies include sleeping, snoring, moaning in his sleep and making weird sounds when he’s happy”she explained.
For nearly 50 years, the “World’s Ugliest Dog” competition held in Petaluma, California, has chosen the most awful four-legged winner.“This world-renowned event celebrates the imperfections that make all dogs special and unique”, for their part argued the organizers. Mister Happy Face and his mistress, Jeneda Benally, won $1,500 and a trip to New York to appear on NBC’s “Today” show. Back to the 2019 edition.
