In a previous article, we had the pleasure of taking you to the kitchens of “Ristorante Italiano da Pietro”, an address located very close to Saint-Thomas Square. There, the pizza is not queen: it is rather fish, shellfish and seafood that are given pride of place in dishes that are always polished. But there is another element that makes this restaurant so special: the family that runs it. A year after our first meeting, she has a lot of new things to share with us.
Da Pietro, whose real name is “Ristorante Italiano da Pietro”, is a small family restaurant unlike any other. Opened in June 2021, it has become the meeting place for those who love Italian cuisine far from the classic pizzas, gnocchi and other aranchini. Here, chef Pietro and chef Silvana offer cuisine based on both the freshness of seafood and a love of Sicilian pastry. A pretty wedding that hits the mark. With their son Danilo, in charge in the dining room, they offer dishes that combine authenticity, tradition and creativity. and that make us feel at home.

Pietro and Silvana: a meeting à la Top Chef
A native Italian, Pietro is one of those nomadic cooks who has traveled all over the world to officiate in the kitchens of many restaurants. Before entering the hotel school at 18, he had already made a name for himself in the restaurant world, at his home in Bari, a small coastal town in southeastern Italy, which he calls ” my country “. Cooking was the only thing he wanted to do, and it’s the only thing he always did.
He and Silvana met at a cooking contest. He was there to prepare small casseroles, she was there to win the title of best pastry chef. He finished first in his category and so did she, so inevitably that created links: the two cooks never left each other again. After the competition, it was Madame, who lived in Sicily, who left to join Pietro in Rome while he was working in the kitchens of a restaurant. Both stayed 5 years in the Italian capital before going to Belgium.
But the coldness of the country (it is Pietro who says it), quickly made them flee. So they packed their bags in the direction of Strasbourg, a city that Pietro knew well. It is here, in full confinement, that he and Silvana decided to buy the former Croque Bedaine to set up their very first joint restaurant there.
Exceptional products for a kitchen full of personality
Work with fresh products every day such as shellfish, fish or exceptional crustaceans, while maintaining constant quality : this is one of Pietro’s battles, whose restaurant is open for lunch and dinner. This is what he is most proud of, as he says himself: “We’ve been open for a year now, and I always offer the same freshness, and that’s what customers prefer. I can do frozen, everyone does, and it can cost me three times less, but I prefer to work fresh even if it’s a lot of extra work, but that’s how it is. Looked (he shows me the knives that have just been delivered) they are still alive! »
Tablecloths and white fabric napkins, original crockery: you may not pay attention to these little details, but for Pietro and Silvana, it’s essential. In the restaurants in which he has worked, the chef has always put hospitality and comfort at the center of his attentions to receive customers as they should, without fuss, but with hospitality. Besides, don’t try to find the same plates twice: Pietro and Silvana have fun modifying their dishes, their presentations and their play of colors according to the days and moods. We live a bit at their own pace and that’s also what makes the charm of this very special house to which we must admit, we are very attached.
