Even disappeared for more than two years, the butterfly mechanism keyboard from Apple continues to be talked about. Last year, a class action lawsuit was launched against Apple in seven US states (California, New York, Florida, Illinois, New Jersey, Washington and Michigan). Apple was accused of knowing the design flaws of this keyboard and of having continued to market it, without offering a viable repair solution for those affected by malfunctions. After more than a year of proceedings, Apple has finally reached an agreement with the plaintiffs, Reuters tells us.

It is a sum of 50 million dollars that Apple will pay in the context of this case, if this proposed agreement is finally accepted by the Californian judge. Customers who had to replace the keyboard multiple times will be able to recover up to $395, compared to $125 for those who had to undergo a single repair and $50 for those who had to replace individual keys. The law firms, Girard Sharp LLP and Chimicles Schwartz Kriner & Donaldson-Smith LLP, could pocket up to $15 million deducted from the sum paid by Apple. It should be noted that this agreement concerns only seven American states and that others could therefore follow.
