The case caused a stir on social networks and provoked many reactions: in Mosela 20-year-old man filmed himself skinning a cat and posted the video on Snapchat.

The virality of the social networks led the police to open an investigation and then arrest the person before he was brought to court in Sarreguemines.

The individual, from Freyming-Merlebach, was sentenced on Friday 4 November 2022 to ten months in prison, of which six months suspended.

A sentence lower than the prosecutor’s requisitions

The sentence handed down that day was much lower than the prosecution’s requisitions, which asked two years’ imprisonment and one year’s probation.

For this reason, “a call was filed by the prosecution,” confirms the public prosecutor for Sarreguemines, Olivier Glady.

The defendant, who is currently in prison, “the Court of Appeal has four months to decide”, the judge clarifies.

It wasn’t his first attempt

The defendant admitted during the hearing that this was not his first attempt and that he had already euthanized other animals, including a pigeon he ateaccording to his statements at the bar.
