« Osteopathy for animals is a soft, contact and global medicine. It comes from osteopathy for people »explains Alice Pelletier.
This animal lover, trained veterinarian, works within a radius of 40 km around Bédée (Ille-et-Vilaine) and consults by appointment in the clients’ homes or at their vet around Rennes.
“I practice manual medicine without treatment. It is a supplement to conventional medicine.says Alice. Osteopathy can accompany the animal throughout its life, in parallel with the usual medical follow-up, in prevention or during pathologies. »
“Animal comfort comes first”
This still little-known profession has been placed under the supervision of the National Board of Veterinary Medicine since 2017. It is practiced by palpation of the animal body. In absolute terms, Alice Pelletier, 37, is trained to care for cats, dogs, cows and horses. But she decided to specialize primarily in “living comfort” cats and dogs.
It can treat various pathologies: lameness, stiffness of the kneecaps or pelvis, osteoarthritis. But also chronic diseases (digestive diseases, dermatological, endocrine …). “The ideal is to set up prevention to avoid lesions or damage to animals. I also found that the practice had benefits on the animals’ general behavior »confirms the vet.
After a science baccalaureate, Alice Pelletier continued her studies in the preparatory school before attending the Nantes veterinary school for five years. She then worked for nine years with classical clients. She then decided to follow a training course at the Institute of Alternative Medicine and Veterinary Osteopathy in Paris, before recently starting her new activity at her own expense.
