changes in sight for restaurant vouchers

On June 30, the measure to double the spending limit for meal vouchers will end. The government must quickly decide on this question and on others.

A very popular measure with both restaurateurs and consumers, the doubling of the spending limit for restaurant vouchers from 19 to 38 euros, applied for two years, is due to end on June 30 after three extensions.

Last February, Bercy warned: the extension until June 2022 will be “the last time”.

What will happen next? According Le FigaroBercy has not yet decided but one of the measures on the table, proposed by the National Commission for Restaurant Vouchers (CNTR), would be to lower the ceiling to 29 euros for restaurants and leave it at 19 euros for other food businesses. and supermarkets.

This CNTR proposal would have been brought by certain restaurant voucher issuers such as Edenred or Sodexo who believe that the amount of 38 euros is too high compared to the amount used each day.

60% of restaurateurs want the ceiling to be maintained at 38 euros

The fact remains that they still plead for a ceiling always higher than that applied before the health crisis. Remember that the doubling to 38 euros had been specifically decided to support restaurants closed due to health restrictions. But if these restrictions are now behind us, the sector highlights the inflation which affects both restaurateurs and customers to justify a higher ceiling.

According to a Viavoice survey for Worklife, published last February, six out of ten restaurateurs wanted the restaurant voucher ceiling to be maintained at 38 euros. But the measure is also considered imperfect. Almost all professionals (97%) complained too high commissions.

Another measure that Bercy will announce and pushed by the CNTR, no longer allow the use of restaurant vouchers on weekends and public holidays. “Everyone agrees to stop this measure: it only served to deplete the stocks of meal vouchers” underlines to our colleagues Romain Vidal, secretary general of the GNI Paris Île-de-France and representative of restaurateurs at the CNTR.
