HAVE Juvignacat Montpellier’s western gates, they are called “killer dogs”. On the night from Sunday July 14 to Monday July 15, 2024, these three, even four wandering dogs were active again. A cat has paid the price again.

Metropolitan who revealed the information recently obtained images of these dogs, whose owners have allegedly been identified, while local residents have just written to prefect of Hérault, by attaching to their email petition with 130 signatures to date.

The scenario therefore repeated itself, in the middle of the night from Sunday to Monday, on the road to Lavérune, in a residential area in the large La Plaine district, an area preferred by this group of dogs, where a cat was found lifeless, bloody. “Contrary to what we often hear, we cannot talk about a herd, because the number of these four-legged individuals must be at least ten” states a specialist.

“Whether there are four or ten, these bloodthirsty hounds destroy livestock and kill cats, chickens and rabbits in properties where they always enter at night, between 3am and 6.30am. This cannot continue. Our animals are no longer safe, storms Marie Rubiella, who lives in the district of La Plaine in Juvignac.

She explains that she has noticed two nocturnal incursions into her garden: “Informed of recurring attacks by stray dogs in our neighborhood, usually very quiet, and concerned after these two incursions, my husband and I raised our fence by 1.20m on 2 m. We have three cats who have been unharmed so far. Like all pet-loving owners, we keep it as the apple of our eye.”

Marie Ribiella says she is “distraught and sad to have discovered two dead neighbours’ cats in our street in recent months”. She took the initiative to alert the prefect of Hérault, François-Xavier Lauch, by letter dated last Thursday, July 11, “to inform him that the owners of these stray dogs have been identified and so that the situation is quickly addressed consideration,” she comments. She forwarded the petition and the photos of the “killer dogs.”

According to Marie Ribiella, “several dozen cats were killed, sometimes three belonging to the same owner, attacked in front of his eyes, in his garden and powerless to save them. Residents of La Plaine are faced with three or even four stray dogs on their own terrace , even if they have entered their homes by jumping over fences that are more than 1.20 m high.” She would like to greet “the desire to inform the inhabitants of Juvignac, as she did in your last article, which had a great impact here. We have noticed that investigations are being carried out in the towns of Juvignac and Montpellier, but we have received no feedback while the owners of these stray dogs have been identified and they continue to wander.

This is what Marie Ribiella reports to François-Xavier Lauch in her new letter dated July 11: “Mr Prefect of Hérault Francois-Xavier Lauch, this is the third letter I have sent you. The first two remained unanswered .Killer dogs are still rampant. I am sending you the pictures taken on the night of July 10th and 11th of the pack of dogs that come into our gardens every night, killing our animals and terrorizing our families (…) The municipal police of Juvignac are powerless against grounds of territoriality.” She sent a copy of her letter to the Ministry of the Interior, to the mayors of Juvignac and Montpellier.

Refusal to register complaints

This resident condemns in his writings that “the gendarmerie and the national police refuse to register complaints from the owners of the animals killed and that these dogs do not come very far since their owners live in Roma camp of the place called Bonnier de la Mosson, adjacent to La Plainte de Juvignac, but situated in the municipality of Montpellier. And to wonder: “This camp seems to be a lawless zone where no one has the right to go. How much longer will this last?”.

Investigations would be carried out around this Romanian camp to try to determine if their dogs are the ones wandering at night on the other side of the river. In Juvignac last night the “killer dogs” did not track cats, rabbits and chickens, but until when?
