Lot-et-Garonne: a man injured by a dog leads to the closure of a bridge in Villeneuve-sur-Lot

An unusual incident paralyzed road traffic west of Bastide on Thursday morning, October 27.

It was around 9:30 in the morning on Thursday, October 27, the owner of a German Shepherd walked with him on the Basterou bridge in Villeneuve-sur-Lot. An apparently stray pit bull came their way, and the two dogs quickly – and violently – clashed. While trying to separate them, the owner was bitten by an unknown animal, according to witnesses.

The injured were quickly taken care of by the National Police officers and then by firefighters, while a municipal police patrol temporarily blocked access to the bridge in both directions. The two dogs were brought to the Beauséjour clinic by the hygiene and health service at the town hall of Villeneuve-sur-Lot. They had to be examined by a veterinarian and undergo a behavioral evaluation.

Specific rules govern the possession of so-called “dangerous” dogs such as the pit bull or the mastiff. It entails the possession of a fitness permit and stipulates that the owner must maintain control of his animal in all circumstances.
