Marseille: The Vanille Noire ice cream parlor is established in the Opera district

In recent years, the Opera has proven to be one of the most popular areas in Marseille for food businesses. Among the latest installations (Mani Mani instead of O’Stop, Prémices, Yaoz…) we now include Vanille noire. A name that speaks to ice cream lovers who have become accustomed to Le Panier. It is actually there, rue Caisserie, that Nicolas Decitre opened his first shop and a laboratory in 2014, before moving the sales part to the larger premises next door and then acquiring a new location on rue de Lorette. This time – while keeping his first two stores and his laboratory in the 2nd arrondissement – he chose to focus on the Opera. “I was already interested in this place 2 years ago“, confides the manager. Today, the location on the corner of rue Molière is unmissable with its black and yellow shop front and its twenty seats on the terrace.

“A more local clientele”

We didn’t go to the beach, I tried to keep this urban atmosphere. Here we address more the population of Marseille. At Le Panier, our clientele is 80% tourists. After a month and a half of opening, we see that half of our customers in the Opera are local.“Another difference is that gourmets can sit down to enjoy their ice cream (pot or boil), in tea room mode, as hot and cold drinks and milkshakes are also offered. It is also possible to buy ice cream by the liter or half liter to take it home.

If Black Vanilla’s artisanal ice creams are so popular, it’s because they’re made from fresh fruit,” with a high fruit content, up to 80%“, explains Nicolas Decitre, who also works with sugar quantities. This creative person has imagined a delicious ice cream (date, orange blossom, almond) naturally sweetened by its ingredients, for example.

In the windows there are always about twenty recipes, including the bestsellers: black and white vanilla, Beirut night (caramelized pistachios and orange blossom), basil, strawberry… and the flavor of the moment (watermelon…) . Otherwise, you can be surprised by a peanut sorbet or fior di latte (from 3.70 euros per scoop).
