Renowned lawyer Philippe Dehapiot sentenced on appeal to three years’ imprisonment, including six months

Reputable lawyer of the Paris bar, Philippe Dehapiot was sentenced on Friday on appeal for tax evasion to a sentence of 3 years in prison, including 6 months firm arranged at home under an electronic bracelet, we learned from a judicial source.

Considered one of the best specialists in criminal procedure, he will also have to pay a fine of 50,000 euros and complete a citizenship course.

At first instance, Philippe Dehapiot was sentenced in April 2021 by the Paris court to three years in prison, including ten months suspended, a fine of 200,000 euros and a ban on exercising his profession for three years for a “complete failure in respect of its reporting and accounting obligations” between 2014 and 2018.

Already sentenced twice

“All the taxes I owed have been paid in full, so the sentence is extremely harsh, which is why I am appealing,” he said at the time. His lawyers had pleaded “administrative phobia”.

During his career, Philippe Dehapiot has defended Thierry Herzog (Nicolas Sarkozy’s historic lawyer), Bernard Tapie, Yvan Colonna, Corsican businessman Michel Tomi and former national police boss Michel Gaudin. He has already been sentenced twice for tax evasion, in 2005 to a three-month suspended prison sentence and in 2007 to a fifteen-month suspended sentence and a fine of 10,000 euros.
