The Estrie SPA is overflowing with dogs to adopt

The Eastern Townships Humane Society (SPA) has recently had to deal with a large number of dogs, and is appealing to everyone to find foster families.

The shelter currently hosts about forty dogs, while it only has 30 enclosures.

Among the animals, there are several dog breeds, such as huskies or Bernese mountain dogs.

“With the end of the pandemic, people who adopted during confinement realize with the return to normal life that they may no longer have the time. The demand for adoption has also decreased. The dogs stay longer,” explained Alexane Bégin, communication officer for the SPA de l’Estrie.

Some dogs were also found by the SPA patrol team.

Due to the lack of space, the SPA de l’Estrie must therefore use creativity to take care of all of them. Some enclosures have been split in two to accommodate two dogs. Some hairballs have even been temporarily relocated to employee offices.

To help the organization, the SPA is therefore looking for temporary and permanent foster families, who would act as true masters.

The people chosen for a few weeks must not have children or other animals, and give the time and space necessary to the sometimes anxious animals.

The SPA de l’Estrie, which sometimes experiences certain overflows, indicates that it is rather rare for so many dogs to be found at the shelter, as is currently the case.
