Two holidaymakers attacked by pigs in Corsica, their chihuahua is devoured

Sometimes, the holidays don’t always go as planned… And for this couple of sixty-year-old tourists from Toulouse, who are used to going to Corsica every year, they even turned out to be “traumatic”.

In order to enjoy a breathtaking view of the Gulf of Porto this Thursday, June 9 around 7 p.m., these two holidaymakers, traveling in a motorhome, had decided to go to the level of the relay antennas of the Col de Sevi.

Once parked and accompanied by their little dogs (a yorkshire terrier and a chihuahua), they notice the presence of wandering pigs. Therefore, they decide to keep their two pets on a leash during their hike so “so that they don’t bother them”.

It is a little later that the drama will occur.

During their walk, the couple would have found themselves surrounded by a pack of about twenty pigs coming out of the maquis, trying to attack their two dogs that they still had attached.

Panicked and alone, the vacationers decide to hold them up at arm’s length in order to save them. However, the pigs would then have made them fall repeatedly by jostling them from behind, dragging the female dogs in their falls.

The man would have had time to pick up the yorkshire which would then have fled into the maquis, but the chihuahua, named Chica, was eaten alive by the pigs under the eyes of its owners.

“There is a risk of enormous danger”

“Shocked” and complaining of multiple injuries, the couple contacted the firefighters who transferred them to a doctor on duty in Cargèse.

“The doctor sent us to wash up at a nearby campsite, as we were in a terrible state after being pushed to the ground by the pigs”, indicates the Toulouse. The couple also received a booster shot for tetanus and antibiotics.

The sexagenarian also complains of a major wound behind the knee following her falls, requiring the daily intervention of a nurse.

” Disappointed “ of this misadventure, the couple, who arrived on the island on June 5 and left on June 26, will leave the island this weekend.

They thus invite today the authorities and the municipalities concerned (this place of the Collar of Sevi is with horse between the municipalities of Renno and Cristinacce) to establish signage indicating this animal wandering that the tourists, like them, can be unaware of.

“We did not go looking for these animals, they are the ones who camecomplains the Toulousaine. I’m afraid that other people will start to take this path with young children in turn. There is a huge risk of danger. They are voracious, it’s impressive! I have never seen this. They wander, they do what they want.”

Contacted, Antoine Versini, the mayor of Cristinacce, indicates that signs will be ordered from this Monday in order to prohibit access to walkers on the road leading to the relay antennas.

“There had never been a problem so far. Many campers also decide to sleep there and even light campfires while it’s forbiddensays the mayor. Yes, there are animals because it remains the countryside and it is a place of transhumance for the shepherds. And of course, there is no fence, but we cannot close the whole plateau of the Col de Sevi either.
