Summer is not over! And even if that were the case, you never say no to a good ice cream. But not just any “good ice cream”. We’re talking to you about a dish that, when you taste it, will inevitably bring a “Hummmm” out of your throat. At least that’s the effect these frozen treats had on the editorial reporters, unanimously! Here’s our selection of local artisanal ice cream parlors to go to with your eyes closed.
Italian know-how Chez Alessandro
If Alessandro opened just a stone’s throw from Port Vieux in the spring of 2023, it already has a large number of regulars. And for good reason, its ice cream will make you drool. In his store, the selection of perfumes changes frequently, depending on which products he carefully selects according to the seasons and especially where they are closest.
Short circuit in the viewfinder
His lemons? He takes them from “a lover of the country” in Berre l’Étang. “When I call Régis to come pick up lemons, he picks them up minutes before I arrive.” Alessandro says with a smile. It couldn’t be cooler! “I’m looking to make a short circuit, as much as possible. What interests me is kilometer zero”, he explains.
To honor its Italian origins, we strongly recommend that you choose its pistachio ice cream. It is far from her best selling perfume! The best is to taste it in the typical Sicilian brioche”homemade, like there, with orange and lemon zest”, emphasizes the ice cream chef.
You can also try the ice cream in the homemade cookie. He calls it “Biscotto”. And then the other new thing this summer, “it’s the sicilian granita cart” slips Alessandro. “I still have a lot of things on my mind, entrusts the enthusiast. A frozen dessert should be released in the fall and then prepare this winter. We will surprise you with our logs!”
Funky sticks on Emki pop
Here is a frozen project that everyone will want to join, both young and old gourmands. Emki Pop was created in 2016 by Émeline Lallemand and Guillaume Bacqueville.
And since 2019, they have been developing their recipes in their Aubagne workshop, from which around 10,000 ice creams on sticks come out a day. Their credo is to respect seasonal products, to emphasize the fruits and above all not to add sugar or chemicals. Their flagship product? “Strawberry sorbet!” the duo replies.
Creativity and summer stars
No wonder when we are told that their red fruits grow in Roquevaire, probably only 5 kilometers from the workshop. Ice cream makers unleash their creativity and often release new flavors: lemon, cucumber, mint; Kalamansi and Timur Bay; lemon, turmeric, ginger…
With Emki-pop, fruits are definitely the stars of the summer! But we also find popsicles – for purchase on their website emkipop.fr. And this summer they released a new recipe, a unique flavor put together with the inclusive restaurant Café Joyous – which just opened in Marseille this spring – around cappuccino.
Provence in a cone among the ice
Stéphane has been based in La Ciotat since 2005 and prepares his artisanal ice creams at Place Sadi-Carnot.
Taste from home
Proud of its crowded terrace, it offers flavors inspired by Provence with new products this year such as an olive oil and lemon ice cream and a thyme sorbet. “Since I don’t like the taste of melon alone, I made a mixture with melon, blood orange and lemon”, he explains, talking about his “sun” sorbet.
The ice cream parlor knows how to satisfy itself, and also its customers. Both locals and tourists come to enjoy the terrace with cone in hand: “I give it 10 out of 10, quite simply.”
