This Thursday morning, firefighters were called after a hiker saw a lynx loose in the Marquette countryside. In fact, a Savannah cat, an authorized species whose individual can sell for 5000 euros, which the vet had to put to sleep to better catch it.

After the panther of Armentières, the lynx of Marquette-lez-Lille? It is not like that. However, the firefighters did not take this alarm lightly at around 11 this Thursday, from a hiker strolling rue de l’Hôpital-Saint-Jean-Dieu, near the riding school of the Mûriers stables, in the border of Wambrechies. The hiker said he saw this which he thought was a lynx in complete freedom.
Not a lynx, but a savannah
The department then ordered a dog team from Caudry and a veterinary firefighter from Douai. On the spot, the experts realized that it was in fact a Savannah cat, a licensed hybrid species, cross between a cat and a serval. They then decided to put the great tom to sleep with a hypodermic dart, so as not to injure him by capturing him.
The animal was taken to a safe place and kept secret because the purchase price of a Savannah can reach the 5,000 euros. It is currently unknown whether the cat could be identified and what it was doing in Marquette-lez-Lille, but according to specialists, this cat breed needs a lot of space.
