After falling in love during their holidays, Patricia Mauborgne and Joël Genty had quit their life in the South-West to acquire a restaurant in Tinchebray-Bocage (Orne). An adventure that began a year ago in the bar Restaurant Le Cheval Blanc, a historic establishment in the town.
What happened to the couple today? “We didn’t have time to realize that the year has passed”, he testifies in this mid-June 2022.
Always Patricia in the dining room and Joël in the kitchen
“You can tell I’m not a pro, but I’m doing well”, smiles Patricia shortly after the end of the service, still at 126 Grande Rue. The one who previously exercised the profession ofnurse’s aide served 44 covers that afternoon, “one of the best figures since our opening”. The apprehension shown by the fifty-year-old when she took over the restaurant has given way to more confidence.
I’m in the dining room, and Joël in the kitchen, but he also helps me serve if needed.
While he offered only one in June 2021, Joël is now concocting three courses of the day. At noon: julienne fillet, roast guinea fowl or lamb skewer, and the few dishes that remain permanently on the menu. To be enjoyed on site or to take away.
A terrace with a stage
In 12 months, the couple who resided in the Gers has kept the authentic spirit of Cheval Blanc, while adding its personal touch. “The novelty is the creation of a 46-seat wooden terrace which was completed a few weeks ago”, announces the couple before adding:
There is also a small lounge area that can be transformed into a stage.
Since taking over the bar-restaurant, Patricia and Joël wanted to welcome artists. A wish materialized shortly after: since last July, they have been offering meal-concerts once a month. This Friday, June 17, meet for the first outdoor performance with the group Les Bras Cassés, on the occasion of the Fête de la musique!
“We do not regret the Southwest at all”
For the sequel, it is precisely these concerts that Patricia and Joël would like to see “move a little more”: “we found artists until November to come and perform, but sometimes not many people come to attend”.
Make Tinchebrayens want to go out more, a new challenge that the couple hope to raise. “For the moment, we do not regret the Southwest at all. In one year, we have already met some very nice people here. Let’s continue to prove to them that they made the right choice.
