With Droughtfarmers’ or growers’ hay stocks melt like snow in the sun. Christopher Lebrunthe owner ofMarquenterre donkey factory (Sum) know something about it.
“In May and June, we have already used up our reserves”, he confirms in his farm Noyelles-sur-Mer.
A few days ago, he posted a message on social media. His goal: to find grass to put his 27 donkeys there this winter.
Some conditions are nevertheless necessary to be able to admit animals.
“We want our donkeys to be safe,” says Christophe Lebrun. Properly fenced land is required. The terrain must also be suitable. It shouldn’t be too swampy. Those who are willing to lend us food must also keep an eye on them. Of course you have to love these animals.
We try our luck because we are followed enough. We need space with grass to feed them. We know that people have plots of land available in the winter.
“They like it outside”
As for the conditions of donkeys, Christophe Lebrun wants to be reassuring. The donkey is actually an animal that likes to live outside. He can even do without a shelter.
“Often in the winter we bring them inside, but they like it more outside,” he says. Generally, they are returned to avoid comments. People think we mistreat a donkey if left outside in winter. But it is quite the opposite. In winter it is not a weather problem. The most important thing is that they have water and food. When it rains, he prefers to seek shelter under a tree”.
