Gérald Darmanin said he was “particularly shocked” by the death of a cat crushed in front of its owners on January 2 by a TGV at Montparnasse station.
“I was particularly shocked by what happened at this Parisian station,” said Gérald Darmanin at BFTMV’s microphone on Friday, January 27. During a visit to a SPA hostel, the Minister of the Interior returned to the death of a cat crushed by an SNCF train, which did not want to cause delays.
“I was also particularly shocked by the way SNCF unfortunately handled this terrible affair,” the minister added.

“It is not a trivial act”
“There are two things to understand in this situation: There is the death of this cat, which is not a trivial act, but above all there is a lack of consideration by the SNCF. It is even more serious because it is necessary to avoid these acts repeated”, he called.
As a reminder, on January 2, a mother and her daughter had witnessed their cat being crushed by a TGV when he had escaped and sought refuge on the tracks. Despite the wishes of the owners, the railway company had decided to make the train run on time and had run over the animal.
