More than 100 million people on heat wave alert in the United States

The United States is also facing an extreme heat wave. The heat wave alert concerns more than 100 million people in the country. And temperatures are likely to continue to rise in the days to come.

In some states like Nevada, authorities are talking about record temperatures. 43 degrees were recorded in Las Vegas where for 4 days the mercury has not dropped below 30 degrees at night. Unheard of for 70 years.

A third of the American population is affected, from the east coast to the south of the west coast, passing through the northern plains where the inhabitants are just recovering from the storms of the beginning of the month.

Numerous declared fires

The heat wave alert should remain in place for at least another five days. And the authorities call on the inhabitants of the areas concerned to stay sheltered. In northern areas like Michigan, air-conditioned centers have been opened.

Beyond the risk for the population, this heat wave also threatens the environment and accentuates the already very problematic drought for certain states such as California. It is also prone to fires. Since the beginning of the week, around forty fires have broken out and ravaged more than a million hectares.
