More than 5,000 km: this Varois embarks on a crossing of the United States by bike

Who hasn’t dreamed of a crazy project and who hasn’t imagined taking part in an insane adventure one day? Two friends, Eric Delubac from Ollioulais and Stéphane Cazottes from Aveyron, both SNCF agents, share the same passions: football, marathon, half-marathon, triathlon, running. And of course the bike that pushes them to attempt this mini-feat.

From Boston to San Diego

It all starts with a challenge: sharing an extraordinary adventure together. Cross the United States of America by bicycle, diagonally from the east coast (Boston) to the west coast (San Diego, on the Mexican border), crossing fifteen states and riding 130 km/day on average.

To do this, they have been preparing for a year with many training sessions. Eric Delubac recently covered 1,200 km in eight days on part of the Camino de Santiago.

Sunday June 12, Eric and Stéphane will leave for a long journey of 5,100 km in 38 days, until July 25, with their road bikes equipped with bags and panniers of about 5 kg maximum of luggage and small tools by making small steps in motels already reserved. Departure Air France Paris/Boston and return Los Angeles/Paris.

For a match with Brookline

The city of Ollioules supports this challenge: “To carry out our project, I asked for the benevolence of the town hall of Ollioules so that it could be our sponsor and proposed to the mayor Robert Bénéventi to create an unprecedented twinning project with an American municipality of size and similar interests, near Boston, MA”explains Eric.

“We are going to present in English under Powerpoint, to the mayor and the members of the municipal council of the town of Brookline, a panorama of all the attractions of the town of Ollioules”he continues.

Eric Delubac and Stéphane Cazottes will not fail to share their adventure throughout their journey at the town hall of Ollioules and will also be followed on the Strava application.
