The law against food waste of 10 February 2020 stipulates that local authorities give their citizens the opportunity to sort their bio-waste. The term includes all food waste produced by households and businesses.
The municipalities have until 1 January 2024 to upgrade. They can provide individual composters for all their constituents or, on the contrary, create collective systems.
The goal is to reduce the production of greenhouse gases by recycling its waste, in the form of compost or fuel thanks to methanization. So they can be used again instead of just being sent to an incinerator or buried.
